Animal activists may not like it, but nearly every major designer
has released collections utilizing fur this fall and winter. Fur coats
are the biggest, but look for fur to pop up in accessories such as purses
and hats, as well. |

Brown is now being used as an anchor color almost exclusively,
frequently pairing with bold, bright colors, such as orange and teal.
All shades of brown are popular this season, but camel, nutmeg, and cocoa
are the predominant. |

If you've been wondering what the natural progression would be after the stripe-heavy
collections of the last few seasons, wonder no longer. Designers are
still sporting a lot of stripes, but plaid, herringbone, and hounds-tooth
patterns are taking front stage this season. These patterns will be
popping up everywhere, but outerwear, skirts, and pants will be the
biggest contributor to this new trend. |

Coats are always a focal point of fall and winter fashion. This season,
volume is the theme. Many designers are releasing full-cut and swing
shapes, while others are simply utilizing rich, heavy fabrics, such as
shearling and fur. Longer, military-inspired coats are also a popular
theme this season. Designers are finishing off their coats with big
collars and cinched waists. |

This season, the heavy, rich look is continuing into accessories.
Utilizing velvet, upholstery fabrics, and strong Russian influence,
purses and belts are displaying richly hued paisley patterns. This
trend is also extending to earrings and necklaces. Metallic leathers, a
big theme for accessories in the spring, continue to be big this fall
and winter. |
